Some law enforcement agencies are encouraging iPhone users to be cautious following a new update. The Middletown Division of Police in Ohio posted a warning to parents on Facebook over the weekend regarding the "NameDrop" feature included in the iOS 17 update. The feature allows users to easily share their contact information with another iPhone or Apple Watch by holding the devices very close together. Through the years: Apple’s breakthrough products After the devices connect, you can choose to share your info or receive the other person's. You can also cancel the transfer by locking your phone or moving the devices away from each other before the process completes, according to Apple. The company also stated on its website that NameDrop only works for sending new information, not updating a contact already in your phone."PARENTS: Don’t forget to change these settings on your child’s phone to help keep them safe," the Middletown Division of Police wrote in its Facebook post. Jackie Amézquita works along a continuum of performance, craft, communal action, conceptual frameworks, and profound storytelling that reaches into her own life and out toward a broader diasporic embrace. First gaining wide attention with her remarkable 2018 work Huellas que Germinan (Footprints That Sprout), in which she walked the distance from the border at Tijuana to her home in Los Angeles as a gesture of investigative solidarity with the immigrants who’ve done the same, Amézquita’s practice has expanded to include further objects and embodied actions around soil, masa (corn), limestone, salt and copper—the elements of the earth. Her contribution to the Hammer Museum’s Made in L.A. 2023: Acts of Living biennial brings together her awareness of and engagement with the ground itself and its powers of memory and narrative. The 9 x 13-foot grid El suelo que nos alimenta (The soil that feeds us), 2023, arranges 144 square slabs—each a richly textured and variegated soil s...Feeling festive: 12 wonderful ways to get into the spirit of the season

DEAR TRAVEL TROUBLESHOOTER: I recently rented a home in Jacksonville, Florida, for three nights through Airbnb. The pictures posted by the host did not match the property. The home was damaged and dirty. The sofa in the living room was peeling and dilapidated. One of the exterior doors had mold growing on it and would not close all the way. And the toilets were filthy.Christopher Elliott, the Travel Troubleshooter I filed a complaint with Airbnb, and a representative told me that they contacted the host about a refund. But the host had refused. Airbnb offered me a $14 credit, but I was not satisfied because I had paid $649 for the rental.I had to buy candles to kill the horrible odor and a Swiffer mop to clean the floor, and I also had to wash the dishes. After Airbnb didn’t solve the matter, I spoke with Discover about a credit card dispute, but Discover recommended that I try to resolve this with Airbnb. Can you help?— Tyson Love, Jacksonville, FloridaANSWER: No qu...Wish You Were Here: A splashy trip to Bath

Street vendors in San Francisco's Mission District will not be allowed to sell on the sidewalks for the next 90 days.San Francisco officials say safety and health risks are the leading factors of the ban. Supervisor Hillary Ronen, who is behind the ban, says many unpermitted vendors have come into the Mission District, selling stolen goods and terrorizing people."I recently learned that DPW workers who enforce the law have been assaulted and had their lives threatened by individuals selling stolen goods on the street," Ronen said in her newsletter this month. "I also found out that DPW workers are wearing bulletproof vests to work and that many workers filed grievances through their union so they no longer had to work in the Mission because they feared for their safety."
