Eight months before Maryland voters will cast their ballots in a rare U.S. Senate primary, the bulk of the state’s Democratic machine has already consolidated behind one candidate. Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks emerged as a front-runner shortly after announcing her candidacy, garnering endorsements from major Democratic officials and organizations before her campaign had any issue platforms listed on its website. The race presents a unique opportunity to fill a safely blue seat with a new candidate for the first time in 16 years. If Alsobrooks is successful, she would become Maryland’s first Black senator. While Democrats have embraced Alsobrooks’s historic campaign with enthusiasm, however, her record on criminal justice has largely gone overlooked.During past campaigns for Prince George’s state’s attorney, Alsobrooks positioned herself as staunchly “tough-on-crime.” In addition to pushing the notion that cannabis decriminalization led to drug dealers...Kuss on verge of victory at Spanish Vuelta. GUADARRAMA, Spain (AP) — Sepp Kuss is set to become the first American man to win one of cycling’s Grand Tours in a decade after he protected his lead of the Spanish Vuelta on the last competitive day of racing Saturday.Kuss kept his lead over Jumbo-Visma teammate Jonas Vingegaard over the 20th and penultimate stage.Kuss will wear the red leader’s jersey heading into Sunday’s final stage, when cycling custom dictates that title rivals respect the leader’s advantage in the largely ceremonial arrival to Madrid. The last American man to win one of cycling’s three-week races, which in addition to the Vuelta and Tour includes the Giro d’Italia, was 2013 Vuelta winner Chris Horner.Wout Poels won Saturday’s 208-kilometer (129-mile) ride from Manzanares El Real to Guadarrama.___AP sports: https://apnews.com/hub/apf-sportsSourceMangosuthu Buthelezi, a controversial South African political figure, laid to rest

BAR HARBOR, Maine (AP) — Storm Lee toppled trees and cut power to tens of thousands Saturday as it began lashing New England and eastern Canada, threatening hurricane-force winds, dangerous surf and torrential rains as its center spun closer.Severe conditions were predicted across parts of Massachusetts and Maine, and hurricane conditions could hit the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The storm, still dangerous after being downgraded from hurricane to post-tropical cyclone, was expected to make landfall near or just east of the U.S.-Canada border Saturday afternoon, then turn to the northeast and move across Atlantic Canada on Saturday night and Sunday. In Maine, the nation’s most heavily forested state, the ground was saturated and trees were already weakened by heavy summer rains. There were reports of trees down in eastern Maine, according to Todd Foisy, a National Weather Service meteorologist.“We have a long way to go, and we’re already seeing downed trees and...All Blacks jersey gesture touches Namibia after horrible injury in Rugby World Cup game

His injury led to an extended break in play in Toulouse after he fell on a rain-soaked field trying to tackle New Zealand’s Beauden Barrett. He immediately put his hand up to call for help, with his right foot bent gruesomely.Malan had successful surgery on Friday night to reset the ankle, Namibia coach Allister Coetzee said on Saturday, and would recover for 3-4 days before going home.Coetzee also revealed the gesture by the All Blacks to give Malan the signed No. 12 jersey, the number he wears for his country.“It says a lot about the sportsmanship of this World Cup, it’s a good gesture from the All Blacks,” Coetzee said. “That is not just saying the et...Hollywood strikes enter a new phase as daytime shows like Drew Barrymore’s return despite pickets

NEW YORK (AP) — “The Drew Barrymore Show” will begin airing fresh episodes on Monday but a lot of off-air controversy will be clinging to its typically bubbly host.Barrymore — a daughter of a proud acting dynasty — is making new batches of her syndicated talk show despite picketers outside her studio, as daytime TV becomes the latest battlefield in the ongoing Hollywood labor strife.“We’re four months approximately into this strike and it’s not surprising that there are defectors,” said Michael H. LeRoy, a professor of labor and employment relations at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. “I couldn’t predict that this would happen on daytime TV, but everybody has a breaking point in a labor dispute.”“The Drew Barrymore Show,” operating without its three union writers, isn’t the only daytime show to resume. “The View” has returned for its 27th season on ABC, while “Tamron Hall” and “Live With Kelly and Ryan” — neither are governed by writers guild rules — have also been pr...Abordar un avión es una pesadilla.
