Alex Gaugert was considering skipping Monday’s 3M Open qualifier altogether. He stuck around after his good friend and former Gophers teammate Erik van Rooyen finished his final round at the Barracuda Championship on Sunday in Truckee, Calif., to watch his brother, Austin, caddie for Patrick Rodgers, who was the tournament leader.Rodgers went on to lose in the first playoff hole, at which point Gaugert decided to try to catch his redeye, connecting flight back to Minnesota. On Tuesday a meeting between the school district, the county and the company responsible for the asylees was abruptly canceled.Educators are trying to figure out how many school-aged asylum seekers might be attending school. Crews are working to control a brush fire in the Angeles National Forest near Agua Dulce Tuesday afternoon. The Agua Fire was reported around 2:15 p.m. near Soledad Canyon and Agua Dulce Canyon roads, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The blaze was first reported at 4 acres but quickly grew to 11, with potential to grow even more.Heavy brush was burning in the fire, though no structures are currently being threatened.The county fire department is in unified command with the forest in fighting the blaze. A woman who was punched by a sheriff's deputy while holding her baby last year has filed a federal lawsuit against Los Angeles County and the deputies involved in the violent encounter.In a federal civil rights lawsuit, Yeayo Russell alleges the deputies involved in the July 13, 2022 incident used excessive force in her wrongful arrest. The incident unfolded when deputies pulled over a vehicle for not having its headlights on in Palmdale. They discovered three women with babies in their arms and no car seats.Bodycam video realized by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shows an encounter between Palmdale deputies and a mother holding her child on July 13, 2023. Eventually, the male driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and the women were arrested on suspicion of child endangerment. Recently released bodycam video of the encounter shows Russell yelling while not letting go of her baby. The owners of a vacation rental property in Hollywood Hills have been ordered to pay $375,000 to a British vacationer who was bit hundreds of times by bedbugs while staying at the property in 2015.Meshak Moore had planned on staying at a property on the 2300 block of Vasanta Way from Aug. 24, 2015 through Oct. 22, 2015, but left after four weeks after repeatedly being bitten across the entirety of his body by bedbugs that had infested the property, according to court documents provided by his lawyer. Fire crews are battling a brush fire that broke out in Sylmar on Tuesday afternoon.The Newhall Pass Fire is burning along Sierra Highway near the 5 and 14 Freeways, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.The blaze is reported at around five acres and growing, officials said.The flames are burning near a commercial building in the brush-filled area with heavy plumes of smoke seen covering the hills.Both air and ground units are responding to the scene.
