I don’t own a car. I wish I could coast on that truth as my credentials for discussing my commitment to a car-free lifestyle, but the truth is I do often drive — borrowing a car from a small network of friends and family and neighbors who are immensely generous — because I often need to drive. Even that isn’t the complete truth. Sometimes it isn’t need. Sometimes it is, quite frankly, laziness — when there’s too much snow to bike, or it’s too cold or too hot to walk comfortably. The point is, I drive more than I want to. But I wish I didn’t have to drive at all. I wish it was so easy to walk or bike or bus that driving was the inconvenient choice — like it was when I had the privilege of living abroad in public transit-rich and walkable cities in Spain and China. But, if you live here, in Colorado, in the West, in America, odds are your daily life is shaped around the convenience of driving. This reality, though, is proving ruinous. Not only are cars — even electric cars — ruinous fo...Top Colorado ski destination in Summit County experiencing a spike in stolen skis, snowboards

By RALPH D. RUSSO (AP College Sports Writer)The NCAA and ESPN announced on Thursday a $920 million, eight-year agreement that will give the network exclusive rights to 40 championships, including the Division I women’s basketball tournament, an event growing in popularity that the association has been accused of undervaluing in the past.NCAA President Charlie Baker told The Associated Press the deal has an average annual value of $115 million, an increase of more than 300% per year on what the previous 14-year deal with ESPN was paying the association.“Yes, it’s a bundle, but it’s a bigger bundle and it’s a bigger bundle that will be much better,” Baker said. The deal covers 21 women’s and 19 men’s sports, adding tennis, track and field, men’s gymnastics, the women’s Division II and III volleyball and basketball championships and the men’s DII and DIII basketball championships. The deal guarantees national championship ...Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson addresses In-N-Out flub

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson knows his role and is addressing his recent flub about his history with In-N-Out.This all started in late December when the "Black Adam" star posted to Instagram about his first experience at the popular hamburger chain. In the caption, the Great One said it was his “first ever @innout burger experience.”“Rolled up in my pick up and tried to be cool af with my order,” Johnson wrote. “But I didn’t know the lingo, didn’t know who to pay, where to pay, didn’t know s—."However, fans were quick to point out a discrepancy in his tale. "What a strange lie to tell. Especially when his previous visit to In-N-Out was immortalized on social media. Like what was his goal here?" commented one user on the post.Strange indeed considering he documented his journeys to burger joint on the same platform. In 2022, Johnson posted a video to Instagram documenting his alleged "first time ever eating In-N-Out." The video showed two double-double burgers with two servings of fries...Firearms, ammunition seized amid San Bernardino gang investigation

That’s the best double bill since the Manic Street Preachers went out on tour with Suede. This is the second leg off this tour, after the same bands were at the same venue last February. “Ride and the Charlatans are two very different bands, joined together through a special era for UK indie rather than sonics,” we said in our review. “But the show also worked because both bands were blurring genre lines from the very beginning.”7 p.m. on Friday, January 5 at the Wiltern, $35+, livenation.com.The EaglesKia ForumThis is, we’re being told, the Eagles’ final tour. NEW YORK — A U.S. labor agency has accused SpaceX of unlawfully firing employees who penned an open letter critical of CEO Elon Musk and creating an impression that worker activities were under surveillance by the rocket ship company.A Los Angeles-based regional director for the National Labor Relations Board on Wednesday filed a complaint that consolidates eight unfair labor practice charges against SpaceX. The cases stem from the company’s alleged actions following the circulation of the employees’ letter back in June 2022.The letter, among other workplace concerns, called on executives to condemn Musk’s public behavior on X — the platform then-known as Twitter — and hold everyone accountable for unacceptable conduct. Musk’s actions included making light of sexual harassment allegations against him, which the billionaire denied.“As our CEO and most prominent spokesperson, Elon is seen as the face of SpaceX — every tweet that Elon sends is a de facto public state...Save the railings! A battle cry for preserving a historic Big Sur bridge — and spectacular coastal views

To drive over Big Sur’s Garrapata Creek Bridge is to witness a magic trick. The railing of the inhistoric bridge doesn’t conceal the stunning view — rather, the beach sails majestically into sight, seemingly unobstructed. But the vista is under threat, because the remarkable railings at this 1930s-era bridge — and five other famed “Big Sur Arches” — are cracking and dangerous, so they must be replaced with sturdier structures. Once they’re gone, so is the beautiful illusion.A proposed $8.8 million project by Caltrans to install safe new railings on the Garrapata Creek Bridge — obstructing the ocean view with a higher base, thicker top rail and smaller arches, reducing the width of the portals from 10 to 6 inches — has ignited a feud in this remote rugged landscape, immortalized in poetry, writings and millions of #BigSur Instagram posts.Opponents are issuing a call to arms: Save the railing!“It’s so much more than just a rail to keep people on the r...Latest news
